A bit about me….

I’m Mei-Ling, I’m a transformational coach, GP, women’s health specialist, divorced single parent, a cancer survivor, and I have ADHD.

Sometimes life is just about surviving. I’ve been there. But some of the most traumatic experiences of my life were the ones where I personally grew the most and I realised that I didn’t just want to survive, I wanted to thrive.

I was four years old when I decided to become a doctor. In the midst of a severe asthma attack our village GP visited and treated me. I vividly remember the relief of being able to catch a breath again, and declared that when I grew up I was going to be “just like him”. I wanted to be help people feel better, so I headed off to medical school aged 17.

Halfway through my fourth year at university I experienced a severe depressive episode resulting in time in hospital and a four year break from studying.

I hit rock bottom. I didn’t see a future. But with the help of a wonderful psychiatrist, I found my way back through therapy. I returned to medical school to finish my last two years and, with my resolve to help others strengthened, I graduated with Distinction.

After the junior doctor years I completed postgraduate training and became a GP. I now run a busy village practice and specialise in women’s health.

In 2021 I found a breast lump. My worst fears were confirmed, it was breast cancer. I was 41, a single parent with young children and I didn’t know if I would live to see them grow up.

But cancer wasn’t going to stop me. I was going to make what was happening to us matter. I started fundraising for Cancer Research UK and sharing my experience via social media to raise awareness.

I had five gruelling months of chemotherapy. Some days it took everything I had to drag myself on a short walk. Following chemo, I had a double mastectomy and 13 weeks later I rode “Ride London-Essex”, 100 miles and raised over £2.5k for CRUK.

Later that year I ran the London Marathon just before my second surgery and the following year I completed Swim Serpentine.

My body changed dramatically during and after treatment, not just the physical scars but dealing with the long-term side effects of chemotherapy and the double whammy of early menopause without the option of HRT.

Trying to process it all whilst getting back to work and raising a young family by myself led me to coaching.

I wanted to work with clients holistically using lifestyle medicine alongside my traditional medical expertise.

It was time for change, to refocus and renew my love of learning and desire to help, so I completed my Diploma in Transformational Coaching in 2023.

I know how difficult it is to spin all the plates; finding the time to pause and think can feel impossible.

I’ve experienced the positive transformation that coaching can bring in just a few sessions and you can too.

I’m a transformational coach and I’m here to help you thrive.
